 In 1976 at the age of 26, I opened a 30-seat café on North Walnut Street in Bloomington, Indiana. It was dineresque, known for its hearty breakfasts featuring the ever-popular Michael’s Homefries.

The Bar is an offering to the creative spirit of the Bloomington community, meant to invigorate and inspire the collective soul of the restaurant – from the food and atmosphere, to the chefs, owner and patrons. Come experience our world class selection of wine, beer, spirits, and hand-crafted cocktails. It has been a long time coming and is a gift of much joy.

This motley crew is an amalgam of some really incredible talent – we bring many points of view to the art of mixology.

    A former star on the beauty pageant circuit (“Hard work, but the lifetime supply of wetnaps made it all worth it!”), David now spends his free time memorizing the names of lotto winners and eating tacos.

    Favorite Drink:

    Irish Whisky and a good lager.

    Ingredients:

    Powers and a Bell’s Lager, BUT if I’ve had a lucky scratch-off, make it Red Breast 12!

    Broadway veteran turned marketing maven, Karyn likes flavors to be clean and bright, just like her smile.

    Favorite Drink

    Sidecar: “What’s not to love?  Equally at home in any season, this classic of classics unites the dark smoothness of Cognac with a hint of floral orange liqueur, and the mouth-puckering, bright & sunny tartness of citrus.  It warms me from the toes up!”

    Ingredients:

    Cognac, Cointreau, Lemon Juice, Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass with a half-sugared rim. Garnish with a lemon twist.

    Mickey

    An obsessive historian and scholar of mixology, Mickey hones his talent by creating classic and experimental spirit infusions, syrups and shrubs.

    Favorite Drink:

    Negroni: “I love bitter flavors, and the Negroni’s trademark bitterness is built on the back of Campari, one of my favorite liqueurs.”

    Gin, Campari, Sweet Vermouth

    With wit as dry as a top-shelf martini, Max’s flair for flavor will dazzle and delight.

    A scoundrel with a heart of gold, and the newest father at Uptown (sorry ladies!).

    Old Fashioned “It can be dressed up or down in infinite ways – so many flavors can be created using the utterly simple old fashioned recipe as your blueprint.”

    Surly with a hint of obnoxious charm.  Adrenaline junky with a fearless addiction to dead-defying black diamonds.

    Favorite Drink

    Tequila. Neat. (Yeah, Rob doesn’t mess around.)  “Like many do with whiskey, I enjoy the exquisite range of flavors crafted by the multitude of obscure, family owned Tequila micro-distillers.”

    Ingredients:

    Tequila.  A glass.  (and please, don’t insult him with any fruit)

    EMT turned English PhD student, Sarah is now in charge of our craft beer program.

The Back Room is a private dining area that can seat up to 50 guests. This intimate setting is perfect for special events like rehearsal dinners, business meetings, birthday celebrations and holiday parties.
