 In 1976 at the age of 26, I opened a 30-seat café on North Walnut Street in Bloomington, Indiana. It was dineresque, known for its hearty breakfasts featuring the ever-popular Michael’s Homefries.

The Bar is an offering to the creative spirit of the Bloomington community, meant to invigorate and inspire the collective soul of the restaurant – from the food and atmosphere to the chefs, owner and patrons. The Bar serves fine wines, great beers and classic jewels of cocktail culture. It has been a long time coming and is a gift of much joy.

This motley crew is an amalgam of some really incredible talent – from a former professional basketball player to broadway starlet to Marine Sergeant to paramedic – we bring many points of view to the art of mixology.

    An obsessive historian and scholar of mixology, Eric hones his talent by creating classic and experimental spirit infusions, syrups and shrubs.

    Negroni: “I love bitter flavors, and the Negroni’s trademark bitterness is built on the back of Campari, one of my favorite liqueurs.”

    Broadway veteran turned marketing maven, Karyn likes flavors to be clean and bright, just like her smile.

    Favorite Drink

    Sidecar: “What’s not to love?  Equally at home in any season, this classic of classics unites the dark smoothness of Cognac with a hint of floral orange liqueur, and the mouth-puckering, bright & sunny tartness of citrus.  It warms me from the toes up!”

    Ingredients:

    Cognac, Cointreau, Lemon Juice, Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass with a half-sugared rim. Garnish with a lemon twist.

    A former Mixed Martial Arts competitor, Logan traded his thirst for blood as he was Baptized in the fires of the NYC bartending scene – probably why he likes fire so much!

    Favorite Drink:

    Scotch: “I prefer whisky made from barley, and I LOVE smoke and peat – rich, hearty, earthy flavors.”  (also born of fire. . .I’m seeing a trend here. . .)

    Scotch, a glass, and no bullshit.

    A former Sergeant in the US Marine Corp, Nick has traded his love for artillery, guns & ammo for a fascination with explosive flavors of mixology.  In addition to being Uptown’s Bar Manager, Nick is the President & CEO of Morrison Security.  Nick, do you sleep??

    Last Word – “Cause I always get the last word!  Ha ha. . .no really, I love the complex flavors that play off each other.”

    Surly with a hint of obnoxious charm.  Adrenaline junky with a fearless addiction to dead-defying black diamonds.

    Tequila. Neat. (Yeah, Rob doesn’t mess around.)  “Like many do with whiskey, I enjoy the exquisite range of flavors crafted by the multitude of obscure, family owned Tequila micro-distillers.”

    Former Pro Basketball Star with Iccevic Iccevic Demerc in Honduras, and now a GRANDFATHER (wassup grandpa!!), Steve has been a fixture behind Bloomington’s great bars for the last 14 years.

    Jalapeno Margarita: “Not only does the tequila pack a punch, there’s a spicy kick that is really addicting!”
